Brunch Date

A few weeks ago I found out that a grant proposal I had written had been selected, and Herndon ES would receive $2500 to support our STEM program.  Dave and I were driving up to Baltimore at the time, and it was welcome news during an otherwise stressful time.  I was very excited but not nearly as much as Dave.  He is so proud and has been making sure everyone knows about it.

Today we went to a Jazz and Gospel Brunch where the grants were being given out.  It was such a great event.  There was a jazz ensemble from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts as well as their show choir.  The students in both groups blew me away with their incredible talent.  Lunch was delicious, and we met the nicest people.  Dave took every opportunity to talk up the STEM program and let people know how proud he is.  He even interrupted the program ever so briefly so he could take a few pictures of me being given the check from the church’s pastor.  I am so lucky to have someone who believes in me and supports me with all of his heart.

  1. It looks like you had a really lovely day celebrating your grant and Dave celebrating you and your achievement. We too are proud of you receiving this large grant to benefit the students of Herndon Elementary.
We are also so happy that you both had such a nice time together receiving it! What a blessing! It certainly was an unusual approach to have beautiful gospel music intertwined with fabulous jazz performed by talented students from Duke Ellington who may some day be at the top of the music charts. Indeed a unique celebratory moment shared today by two of our most special people! Love, Mom/Pam

  2. Way to go Robyn! We all know you are amazing and talented – it’s nice to see someone who doesn’t know you appreciate that as well. And congratulations to the kids at Herndon Elementary – they will have a great time learning more about science, technology, engineering, and math thanks to you!

  3. Way to go Robyn!!!! I could not think of a better program to get that Grant. You are sooooo gifted and HES is so very lucky to have you on staff. Those kids desire the very best and they have that in you. You could tell Dave was very proud of you!!!! LOL

  4. Well done Robyn, that’s fantastic! What an achievement!
What strikes me so much is how loved both you and Dave are, and how you and your actions are so appreciated by family and friends of yours and also by your students and their families. What a huge impact you are both having in your community. I was bowled over reading the FB page for Dave, and the comments here in your blog are so full of love and support – rightly so!
